JACKALS’ MARTE NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR WITH SUPERB SEASON

Dayton, Ohio — New Jersey Jackals OF Alfredo Marte was named the Can-Am League’s 2019 Player of the Year on Friday, as selected in a poll of league managers and media members. Going into Friday’s game, Marte leads the Can-Am League with 16 home runs, 86 RBI, 28 doubles, a .541 slugging percentage and 180 total bases. The 30-year-old is also tied for second in the Can-Am with 104 hits, is third with 66 runs scored and eighth with a .312 batting average. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native has been a consistent performer throughout the season, tallying 31 multi-hit games and tying a league record with four Batter of the Week selections (weeks ending June 30, July 7, August 4 and August 25).
