JACKALS' HELLWEG SOLD TO PIRATES

For some professional baseball players, their career journey is far from straightforward. That is certainly the case for New Jersey Jackals RHP Johnny Hellweg (pictured), a former Major Leaguer, who, after two seasons in the Can-Am League, is headed back to affiliated baseball. Hellweg’s contract has been sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates, who will assign him to the Class AA Altoona (Penn.) Curve. Hellweg departs New Jersey with 19 saves, a 3.78 ERA and a 2-3 record in 36 relief appearances in 2017. He struck out 62 and walked only 16 over 38 innings of work.
