HOT-HITTING FIGUEROA IS JUNE’S PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Photo: Sussex County Miners Thornhill, Ontario — Hitting .422 with 23 RBI over 27 games, Sussex County Miners 3B Martin Figueroa is June’s Player of the Month. Currently the league leader with a .424 average and a .515 on-base percentage this season, the Elizabeth, N.J., native had 12 multiple-hit games (including four three-hit games and one four-hit game) in June to help catapult the Miners to first place with a 19-8 month. The 22-year-old went 4-for-6 with a triple and three RBI on June 9 en route to Player of the Week honors, and registered another four RBI in his team’s 14-1 victory June 19. In his first year with the Miners, Figueroa has appeared in all 42 of his team’s games, and is tied for fourth in the league with 32 runs scored. 2018 marks Figueroa’s second professional season, having spent 2017 in the Houston Astros organization with rookie-level Greeneville of the Appalachian League. He was a 32nd-round choice of the Astros in the 2017 draft out of the University of Rhode Island.
