JULY 26 LEAGUE RECAP Sussex County 5, Quebec 1 – Box Score Photo Courtesy: Sara Schaarschmidt/Sussex County Miners Sussex County scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and beat Quebec by the score of 5-1. With the win, the Miners increased their lead in the Can-Am League to 7.5 games. The Miners had eight hits in the contest with seven of the nine batters in the lineup collecting at least one. Sussex County 3B Martin Figueroa (pictured) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored while leadoff hitter Breland Almadova walked twice and scored a run in a 1-for-3 night. Center fielder Jayce Ray also chipped in a two-run home run in the pivotal seventh inning for the Miners. Sussex County pitcher Kevin Grendell threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to notch the victory. Grendell allowed a hit and two walks while striking out three batters. The southpaw is now 4-1 on the year. Tonight, during the seventh inning, Figueroa stole second base and gave the Miners the league record for most stolen bases in a season (164).
