Photo Credit: Sara Schaarschmidt/Sussex County Miners DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Sussex County Miners C/INF Martin Figueroa (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 10. Figueroa completed a strong week at the plate collecting eight hits in 18 at-bats, a .444 clip. Figueroa collected two doubles, a triple, and drove in an impressive nine runs. He also demonstrated his patience by drawing five walks. The University of Rhode Island product began his week on Wednesday at the New Jersey Jackals, when he was 1-for-4 with an eighth-inning RBI double. The two-bagger was part of a three-run inning for the Miners, who won the game 6-4. Sussex County returned home to host the Jackals in a doubleheader on Thursday, and despite going hitless on the day, Figueroa drew three walks between the two games. The Miners became the first Can-Am League team to face the traveling team representing the Dominican Republic in 2018, welcoming the Dominicans to Skylands Stadium for a weekend series.
