After two outstanding seasons as a closer, including last summer when he led the California League with 28 saves and was a strikeout machine, it was surprising when Nick Sarianides was released by Arizona early this season after only eight appearances at Double-A Mobile. The Chicago Cubs, widely respected these days for wise personnel decisions, snapped up the 26-year-old almost immediately. Sarianides, who saved 18 games for Trois-Rivieres three years ago and also started the ’14 campaign with the Aigles before Arizona purchased his contract, has been assigned to the rookie Arizona League Cubs.
