AIGLES NEWCOMER EVANS NAMED AUGUST’S TOP PITCHER

Durham, N.C. — Allowing just four earned runs during the month, Trois-Rivières Aigles LHP Jacob Evans was named the league’s Rawlings Pitcher of the Month on Saturday for the month of August. Currently, the Tulsa, Okla., native is 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA, striking out 37 hitters in 31.2 innings and limiting opponents to a .172 batting average. Evans joined the club August 5 and immediately bolstered the Aigles’ playoff push, pitching four scoreless relief innings that evening. He was brilliant in his first start five days later, picking up the win by limiting New Jersey to no runs on one hit in six innings of work, fanning seven. During the rest of the month, on August 15, he held Quebec to one run on six hits in eight innings but received a no-decision; on August 21, Evans fanned nine New Jersey hitters in six innings of work; and on August 26, he pitched 7.2 shutout innings against Ottawa, striking out ten. For his efforts, he was named Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 26.
