Beavers Win Against Hoppers, 4-1

UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (15-21), defeated the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (19-20) on Thursday night in front of an energetic crowd at Jimmy John’s Field for back to school night, presented by Congressman John James and Kroger.

Sam Bass started on the mound for the Beavers, tossing 6.0 innings. Bass struck out eight, and allowed no runs on five hits. Andrew Verbrugge pitched the 7th inning, striking out two of the four batters he faced, followed by Brett Erwin pitching the final two innings of the game.

Offensively for the Beavers, lead off hitter Ben Wilcoxson had two hits, one run and one RBI. Pablo Ruiz finished the night going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Joe Burke added one RBI to his season total and Chase Rodriguez scored twice.

For the Hoppers, Colin Cornwell and Noah Marcoux both had two hits. Whit Hughes doubled, and Ben Ferguson and Zeb Roos each had one hit. Eastside had their two best starters on the mound. Pierce Banks threw the first 5.0 innings, striking out five and allowing three runs on seven hits, followed by Ryan Korolden, who allowed one run on three hits.
