UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (17-28, 3-0) defeated the Utica Unicorns (25-20, 0-1), 3-2, on Saturday night to become the 2024 USPBL Champions, in front of lively sold out crowd.
The Beavers started Championship Weekend as the no. 4 seed, winning all three playoff games, to become the 2024 Champions. Dyson Johnson started on the mound, throwing 6.2 innings, allowing two runs off five hits and striking out seven. Johnson was named MVP of the Championship Game. Brett Erwin pitched the final inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Offensively for the Beavers, Ray Hilbrich went 2-for-3, with one double. League MVP Matt Piotrowksi had two RBI and one hit. Joe Burke brought in the game securing run in the top of the fifth inning. Ben Wilcoxson had one hit, walked twice and scored twice.
For the Unicorns Patrick Baggett and Marques Tititalii both had one RBI, bringing in both runs for Utica. Ryan Enos and catcher Ethan Krizen scored those two runs. RHP Ben Krizen was assigned the loss for the Unicorns.
