UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (13-19) defeated the the Westside Woolly Mammoths (16-13) in walk-off fashion, 4-3, at Jimmy John’s Field in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.
The Mammoths struck first early in the contest, exiting the first inning with two hits and a run scored from Jake Walker. In the second inning, Jose Cedeno hit his second home run of the season, giving Westside a 2-0 lead.
The Beavers also hit a home run in the second inning, with Chase Rodriguez hitting his fifth of the season. Fox Leum added to the fun, launching a home run for the Mammoths in the third, giving his team a 3-1 lead.
Vasili Kaloudis hit an RBI single in the fifth for the Beavers, allowing Rodriguez to score a run and bring the game within one. Rodriguez finished the contest in the bottom of the sixth, hitting his second walk-off home run of the season and securing victory for the Beavers.
