UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (17-27) defeated the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (23-22), 4-1, Friday night at Jimmy John’s Field. With this win, the Beavers will be the no. 4 seed and the Hoppers will be the no. 3 seed, facing each other in the first playoff game of Championship Weekend.
The Beavers had their first score of the game when Matt Piotrowksi hit his eighth home run of the season, brining in two runs. Pablo Ruiz finished the night 2-for-4 and shortstop Ben Wilcoxson had two hits and scored once.
LHP Greg Loukinen started on the mound for the Beavers, tossing 5.0 innings, striking out seven and allowing one run on two hits. Loukinen improved his record to 8-2.
For the Hoppers, Ben Ferguson‘s hit brought in Bailey Martin. Luis Aviles and Bryant Shellenbarger were the only other Hoppers to get a hit in this evening’s contest.
