UMPIRE TEAGUE GETS FULL SPRING TRAINING SLATE

Independent Baseball Chatter – by Bob Wirz One American Association graduate has been assured of a full major league spring training, and does not even have to worry about how well he will hit or if his control will be sharp. Along with 15 players from the league who have earned spots in major league camps, umpire Ron Teague has earned this assignment after working his way through the American Association from 2006-2010, umpire school, several of the minor leagues affiliated with MLB and the Arizona Fall League. “This one (Teague) is really special to me,” praised Kevin Winn, director of umpiring in the American Association. “I hired him when he was 18, and he is like a son to me.” Out of Cypress, Texas, Teague has been on a fast track for some time, including handling home plate for the Futures Game during All-Star festivities two years ago. He also will be part of the umpiring crew when Atlanta plays its initial game in the new SunTrust Park March 31 against the New York Yankees.
