PHOTO COURTESY: SIOUX CITY EXPLORERS DURHAM, N.C. – The American Association of Professional Baseball announced today that Sioux City Explorers SS Nate Samson has been named the 2016 American Association Player of the year. Samson’s selection marks the first time in the franchise’s 24 year history that a member of the Explorers has claimed the Player of the year honor. For the 2016 season, the Ocala, FL native has turned in a phenomenal season in which he has started all 95 games to date at short stop. Samson is currently second in the American Association with 129 hits and is currently one hit shy of breaking the Explorers franchise record for hits in a season going into tonight’s game versus the Lincoln Saltdogs. Samson is currently tied for the American Association league lead in doubles (29), ranks 3rd in the American Association with a .346 batting average, tied for 3rd in stolen bases (29) and currently holds a .419 on base percentage, which ranks him 4th in the American Association.
