Durham, N.C. — The contract of Sioux City Explorers RHP Connor Overton was purchased by the San Francisco Giants organization, the American Association announced on Thursday. Overton will report to High-A San Jose in the California League. Overton was dominant out of the bullpen for the Explorers this season, going 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA and 11 saves in 30 appearances. In 36 2/3 innings of work, the 23-year-old fanned 45 hitters while walking just 12 and limiting opposing hitters to a .164 average. 2016 marked the first season with Sioux City for the Richmond, Va., native. Previously, Overton spent two seasons in the Miami and Washington organizations, reaching as high as Triple-A. He was originally a 15th-round draft pick by the Marlins out of Old Dominion University. Overton is the fourth Sioux City player to have his contract sold to a major-league organization in 2016, following INF Ryan Court (Boston), INF Noah Perio (Los Angeles Dodgers) and RHP Tayler Scott (Milwaukee).
