MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers’ RHP Jason Garcia (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending September 2. Garcia tossed a complete game shutout in a 14-0 win over the Texas AirHogs on August 29, allowing two hits, walking two, and striking out seven. The righty added an inning of scoreless relief against the Wichita Wingnuts on September 1 to secure the award. The former major leaguer joined teammate Nate Samson, this week’s Player of the Week, to sweep the weekly awards. Garcia began his professional career in 2010 after being drafted in the 17th round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. The Bronx native made 21 relief appearances with the Baltimore Orioles in 2015, going 1-0 with a 4.25 ERA in 29.2 innings of work.
