DIAMONDBACKS PICK UP SALTDOGS’ ROOKIE ROBBINS

Durham, N.C. — The contract of Lincoln Saltdogs 3B/OF Joe Robbins has been purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, the American Association announced on Monday. Robbins, 23, was stellar for the Saltdogs in his first professional campaign, hitting .302 with 7 home runs, 12 doubles and 23 RBI in 49 games. Nine of the home runs were hit in the team’s final 28 games. The Pineville, La., native hit for the cycle on August 10, the first Lincoln player to do so since 2006. Additionally, he hit .375 with three home runs, a double and five RBI during the Saltdogs’ first-round playoff series against Winnipeg. Previously, Robbins played collegiately at Louisiana-Lafayette, where he was a first team All-Sun Belt Conference player at third base a senior. He is the fifth Lincoln player to have his contract purchased by a major-league organization this season.
