D’BACKS PURCHASE CONTRACT OF LEMURS’ DENKER

Durham, N.C. — The contract of Laredo Lemurs 3B Travis Denker has been purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, the American Association announced on Saturday. In his third season with the Lemurs, the former major-leaguer was tied for second in the league with seven home runs to go along with 17 RBI and a .263 batting average. After spending most of the 2015 campaign in the Mexican League, Denker, 30, was acquired by the Lemurs for the stretch run and helped to spur the club to its first league championship, hitting .361 in 20 regular-season games and .406 in the playoffs. He was also named the American Association’s all-star second baseman in 2014 after leading the league with 85 RBI and finishing second with 25 home runs. A 14-year professional veteran, the native of Fountain Valley, Calif., has also, spent time in the L.A. Dodgers, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston and Seattle organizations, reaching the big leagues with the Giants in 2008. Denker was originally a 21st-round choice of the Dodgers in the 2003 draft.
