WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (27-23) beat the Sioux City Explorers 9-0 at Shaw Park on Friday night.

Box Score

In the bottom of the third inning, Reggie Pruitt Jr. singled to left with one out and went first to third on an errant pickoff throw by Explorers’ starting pitcher Patrick Ledet.  With Ian Sagdal at the plate, Pruitt scored the game’s first run on a wild pitch.  Sagdal then pulled a triple to right and scored on a single up the middle from Max Murphy to make it 2-0.

Hidekel Gonzalez opened the bottom of the fifth with a double to left-centre and advanced to third when Pruitt bunted for a single.  Sagdal lifted a sacrifice fly to centre that scored Gonzalez, and Winnipeg opened a 5-0 lead when Murphy crushed a two-run home run to centre.

Kevin Lachance walked leading off the bottom of the sixth, and was followed by a long, two-run home run to left-centre from Deon Stafford Jr.  Two batters later, Gonzalez blasted a solo shot to left that made it 8-0.

David Washington ripped the Goldeyes’ fourth home run, a solo shot to right with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to provide the game’s final margin.

Goldeyes’ starter Freisis Adames (5-3) picked up the win, pitching six shutout innings on six hits.  Adames walked one and struck out four.

Patrick Ledet (2-2) started for Sioux City (20-29) and took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits in five and one-third innings.  Ledet walked one and struck out three.

Jhon Vargas and Zac Ryan combined for three shutout innings by the Goldeyes’ bullpen.  Sagdal has hit safely in eight games in a row.  The Goldeyes’ four home runs tie a season-high set on June 22nd at Cleburne.

Game two of the three-game series is Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m.  RJ Martinez (4-3, 4.94) faces left-hander Tom Windle (2-2, 3.30).
