Tim Ferguson, owner of the Yuma franchise slated to play in the upstart American West Baseball League, announced this week that the “name the team” voting led to a close victory for the new team name. The team will be called the Yuma Desert Rats, and Ferguson explained the definition of the name in a recent article.
A very close second choice was the “Yuma Scorchers.” It appears that Scorcher will be the nickname for the mascot at this time. The fan club likely will be called the “Rat Pack”.

POOR choice…no pride or good character to be found in an animal like that. Is that the way you want the players and coaches to be? Sick!
Should have stuck with Scorpions; buy the patent to it if you had to. Appropriate for the area, threatening to opponents as it should be, and a great logo and color combo to boot. I’ll keep my cap and logo tee!!
But I think the league needs two more teams to be seriously considered. Would like to see a return of the St. George Roadrunners. Nice field and great uniforms and logo. Good team! What’s the matter with the fan support there? don’t love baseball??
