It appears that this is the official landscape for the 2011 professional independent minor league baseball season:
- American Association (14 teams)
- Atlantic League (8 teams)
- Can-Am League (8 teams)
- Frontier League (12 teams)
- North American League (12 teams)
- Pecos League (6 teams)
If this, ultimately, is how the landscape will look at the start of the 2011 season then here are the changes from 2010:
- American Association loses Pensacola but gains Amarillo and 4 former Northern League teams (Net + 4)
- Atlantic League loses Newark but has Road Warriors travel team (Net 0)
- Can-Am League gains Newark + Ramapo (or other team, TBA) (Net + 2)
- Frontier League has Oakland County go dormant for 1 year (for new stadium) and gains Joliet (Net 0)
- North American League combines the remaining Golden, Northern, and United League teams
- Continental League folds
- Pecos League starts new with 6 teams (2 from CBL + 4 new teams)
Should this be how everything plays out then there are:
- 2 fewer leagues than 2010
- 4 fewer overall teams than 2010 (64 teams played in 2010)
Once the Can-Am League’s final teams are announced then the “overhaul” will begin on this site to update the links to:
- Teams
- Schedules
- Stats
- Merchandise
- Players
- Etc.
Thank you for your patience, and have a great New Year’s Eve!
