Former Major League manager and longtime independent league manager Tim Johnson took over as the manager of the El Paso Diablos (American Association) for the rest of the season. Within independent baseball he was the manager of the Lincoln Saltdogs (Northern League/American Association), the Tucson Toros (Golden League), and the Lake County Fielders (Northern League/North American League). He also served in the California Winter League.
