The 2012 Atlantic League will have a independent minor league baseball team in Sugar Land, Texas. The team announced this week that it will be named the Sugar Land Skeeters:
Of interest is the list of names whom might become the team’s field manager in 2012. The other interesting thing is that the local paper reported that the Atlantic League has a planned 4 to 6-team Western Division. No word from the Atlantic League has come out about any teams West of the upcoming 2012 Loudon Hounds, who will play in Virginia.
The Atlantic League has announced plans for another Long Island, NY team for a facility near the Nassau Coliseum; but no other expansion teams have been officially stated. Obviously, a Western Division makes sense with the Sugar Land announcement due to the geographic discrepancy which currently exists for the 2012 season. As more news becomes confirmed then it will be added on this site.
