The St. George Roadrunners of the Golden League had to suspend operations in recent days. The team will become a travel team, operated by the league, to finish out the rest of the 2010 season:

Hopefully the GBL can make 2011 season more successful as it has had significant financial challenges in Yuma, Tijuana, St. George, and even Maui (as cited here: http://www.mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/532806.html?nav=11). At the time of this post, there was no mention of anything on the GBL website (Goldenbaseball.com) nor the league’s Facebook or Twitter accounts. As things progress, they will be reported on this site.
One common element is that these teams all had new owners or operators for 2010. Hot Corner was a new owner of St. George, Ricky Smith operated Yuma earlier in the year, Tijuana and Maui are new teams. Hopefully Maui can continue into 2011 and become a successful venture; and hopefully new teams will come in next year with much stronger ownership and more friendly markets.
