The Championship Game was today between the Salem Senators and the Portland Mavericks. Cole Nelson started on the mound for the Senators and Sammy Mercedes for the Mavericks. The Senators scored two in the bottom of the 1st after an error by Rodny Rodriguez. It was 2-0 when the Mavericks scored in the 2nd off of a Mitchell Austin groundout. Isaiah Dominguez made it 3-1 in the 4th with an RBI single and the Mavericks chipped away again scoring another in the bottom of the 5th to make it 3-2. That’s when the Senators offense exploded and put up 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make it 9-2 which was ultimately the final score as the Salem Senators won the 2022 Mavericks League Championship!
The Senators now have been added to the list of historical independent baseball league champions going back to the 1993 inception of current independent professional minor leagues:
