The Loudon Hounds will be an independent baseball team which begins play in the Atlantic League during the 2012 season. While over a year away from the first pitch, the team doing some intelligent things in terms of using social media to build a list of fans.
A few months ago they built a mailing list for their “name the team” contest. They then created a blog and other social media properties. Here is a list of what they are doing:
- Blog: http://www.loudounhounds.com/dogdish/
- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/houndsbaseball
- Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/loudounhounds/
- Twitter: http://twitter.com/loudounhounds
- YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLoudounhounds
- RSS: http://www.loudounhounds.com/dogdish/?feed=rss2
This is a smart way to build up a fan base in order to generate hype and word-of-mouth support. Hopefully the content they generate in the ensuing months is unique and informative enough to be shared by its fans to those who are not yet fans. If done right, they have the infrastructure to give themselves a lot of flexibility (and possible new revenue streams) before they throw the first pitch.
