The Tijuana situation will be interesting as the Tijuana Potros were looking for a place to play in 2009. Their first attempt was with the Golden League, but the league announced that the Potros would not join the GBL due to the swine flu concern in Mexico at the time. The Potros then attempted an agreement with the United League Baseball in mid-season in 2009; but that, too, fell apart at the last minute.
Both of those situations fueled speculation regarding Tijuana’s financial practices. Hopefully the GBL has received all financial, political, and safety guarantees in order to have a viable franchise in Tijuana for 2010 and into the foreseeable future.
If any of you have information about playing, coaching, or managing in Tijuana then feel free to leave a comment on this blog post. While Tijuana’s potential for large crowds and lots of beer being consumed may be alluring from the business side, there are legitimate safety concerns.
