The owner of the Fort Worth Cats, Carl Bell, was recently quoted about more expansion in the American Association, possibly as early as the 2011 season:
With the likelihood of the American Association already getting the Laredo market in 2012 as well as Montgomery County (The Woodlands, TX) for 2012, the question remains of which cities would become viable markets for the AA in 2011. Currently, the merger of the 4 Northern League teams makes the AA a 14-team league; and they announced 3 divisions.
In the event that the Shreveport-Bossier Captains end up in Amarillo (http://www.baseballdigest.com/2010/10/04/business-beat-united-league-out-in-amarillo/) then the question remains as to which cities in the Texas/Southwest area would be viable for 2011. The city would need to have an already-existing stadium and a solid demographic base to support baseball. Of course any 2011 AA expansion to 16 teams, as Bell is quoted as saying, could be done in the MidWest or Great Plains area as well.
