We just added a list of all of the historical independent professional (independent minor league) baseball teams which played at least one game (under that team name) since 1993. That year marked the start of the current version of independent professional baseball when the Frontier League and Northern League started.
Any “master list” is subject to many criticisms, so a list of considerations and exceptions was added to the top of the page in order to show why (or why not) certain teams were added. This page is meant to be a resource to help chronicle this section of professional baseball history, so please contact us if a team is missing.
Should you believe that a team is missing please let us know in which league it played, provide links or some legitimate documentation, and it will be considered. Also, this list is subject to change based on our own research; and such changes will be noted.
At this time, the list is simply the team names in alphabetical order. No leagues are mentioned, nor are the years in which the teams played. Over time, there will be additional content about these folded/former teams so please be patient. If you wish to help with this project then you are welcome to contact us for what we need in order to make it as accurate a resource as possible for all baseball fans – both longtime independent baseball fans all the way to curiosity-seekers who just have heard about the independent leagues for the first time.
Here is the link to that page, and you also can click on “Former Teams” in the navigation bar.
