On Monday night the Evansville Otters won their second Frontier League championship in team history, defeating the River City Rascals in the fifth game (of a best-of-five series) by a final score of 1-0. The Otters last won the Frontier League championship a decade earlier, winning the 2006 league title.

On the same night, the Winnipeg Goldeyes won the 2016 American Association championship. It is the second American Association championship for the team (previous was 2012), and it is the third season title in team history. The Goldeyes won their first championship in 1994, during the team’s first season in the Northern League.
