The proposed American West Baseball League (AWBL) announced this week that former Major Leaguer, Albie Lopez, will be part of the ownership group bringing a team to Mesa, Arizona for the league’s first season in 2013. This is the league’s 5th announced team:
The last pro baseball team in Mesa was a team known as the Mesa Miners. They were in the Golden Baseball League’s first season in 2005. A revised Mesa Miners team played in the Arizona Summer League in recent seasons, but this was in instructional/developmental league format and was not officially professional baseball.
