A few days ago, the American Association announced that the announced attendance at AA stadiums for the 2012 season surpassed the 2 million mark for the 13 combined teams. The league website announced that there is a chance that it may break last year’s record attendance year for the AA.

The 2011 addition of the stronger former Northern League teams (Winnipeg, Fargo, Kansas City, and Gary Southshore) obviously helped the league improve attendance over the 2010 season mark. The 2012 season saw the loss of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains (sold and moved to become the Laredo Lemurs) as well as the loss of the Fort Worth Cats (to the North American League). With one less team, but a brand new stadium in Laredo, the AA has reason to be happy with its announced attendance figures relative to previous seasons.
