We at IndependentBaseball.net tend to favor joint efforts between the various independent leagues for a number of reasons. While each league is “independent” of affiliated/organized baseball, many fans do not know that the leagues are also “independent” of each other, although some loose arrangements exist on a case-by-case basis. Increasing joint efforts between the leagues can help the business side on factors such as:
- getting better pricing for equipment
- possibly reducing travel and/or insurance costs
- increased visibility across North America so that baseball fans, who would likely go to at least one game, have increased chances of becoming aware of other independent baseball leagues & teams
- new revenue opportunities ranging from sponsorship dollars, new online marketing revenues, and financial incentives to cross-promote other teams to their fans
Hopefully, in time, these joint efforts will strengthen. From the fans’ perspective, it is great to see some of these efforts being done today. One such attempt is this week’s independent baseball prospect tournament held in Florida. Multiple players from each league are attending, and the list of players can be found here:

In previous years we have seen joint efforts on the playing side with multi-league All Star Games, combined-league tryouts, and exhibition games between teams from opposing leagues. Hopefully this tournament will get the attention of more and more baseball fans, scouts, and others; and may it be another step forward toward mutual beneficial arrangements between the various leagues.
