WASHINGTON, PA – The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, avoided the sweep with a 6-1 win over the Washington Wild Things on Sunday. The Crushers (39-44) won their fifth game of the season against the Wild Things (44-39) who won their first series at home against Lake Erie this season. The Crushers took advantage of a shaky Washington defense to plate two in the first. Sean Hurley drew a one-out walk and Jordan Dean followed with a double to put two men in scoring position. With Conner Simonetti at the dish, a wild pitch scored Hurley, and an errant throw back to the plate brought in Dean for a 2-0 lead. Lake Erie extend the lead with a run in the second. Brandon Murray led off the inning with a solo shot to extend the lead to three, and the Crushers continued to pile on with two more runs in the third. Hurley reached on an error at third, and two batters later, Simonetti crushed a homer to right, pushing the lead to 5-0. Lake Erie added another tally in the fourth.
