JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy looked to even up their series against the Washington Wild Things after dropping Friday’s contest. Luis Cruz toed the rubber for Joliet opposed by Ethan Gibbons. Cruz dominated early and went on a stretch where he struck out 4 of 5 Wild Thing batters. Rashad Brown ripped a one hopper up the middle that caught Cruz on his left thigh and then after feeling discomfort departed under his own power. In a scoreless game, this forced Slammers’ manager Jeff Isom to go to Tyler House, an Illinois native, to eat up some innings and House did more than just that. The offense for Joliet remained quiet along with Washington’s until the 5th, when Luis Diaz poked a ground-rule double to right field to make it 2-0 Slammers. Melvin Rodriguez followed a few batters later with a bullet to right field to plate Diaz from second base. In the 6th Joliet tacked on one more after Danny Zardon reached on an error and then scored on a ball to the backstop to put Joliet up 4-0.
