Freedom to Honor Northern Kentucky’s First Baseball Team

FLORENCE, Ky. – On Thursday, August 17 the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, will turn back the clocks and honor Northern Kentucky’s first professional baseball team during ‘Covington Blue Sox Night’ at UC Health Stadium in Florence. Covington Blue Sox Night, presented by Smoke Justis, will pay homage to the 1913 Covington Blue Sox of the Federal League as the Freedom will trade in their normal home uniforms for vintage turn of the century style baseball uniforms fully equipped with knickers and beanies. To continue the celebration of baseball in Covington, the Freedom will donate 20% of ticket sales that use the online special offer code of “Covington” back to the Crosstown youth baseball league. “This is a night I hope the whole city of Covington, and Northern Kentucky, can get behind because it’s going to be a lot of fun remembering our baseball past while we support our youth baseball future,” Covington Mayor Joseph Meyer said. Mayor Meyer will throw out the ceremonial first pitch with a golden baseball, just like Covington mayor George “Pat” Phillips did back in 1913 during the Blue Sox home opener.
