The headline saying the Colorado Rockies had released Stephen Cardullo (pictured) only told part of the story. Thankfully.This champion of determination, who spent the ’13, ’14 and ’15 seasons in the Can-Am League and became a poster boy for all in Independent Baseball when he reached the major leagues one year later, no longer resides on the Rockies’ 40-man protected roster. But the team re-signed the outfielder-first baseman to a Triple-A contract in less than a week after the original story broke. The reason his name is not appearing in Albuquerque box scores is that he was plunked by a pitch, suffered a broken bone in the wrist and it appears he will be out at least two months.
