JOLIET, Ill. – The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy came into Saturday night’s contest under the spell of a three-game losing streak. They say sunshine always follows a good storm and after a couple of severe thunderstorms moved through the Joliet area, the Slammers were able to win game two and set up the rubber-game tomorrow with Joe Ortiz (1-0) on the mound. Tonight we saw the debut of newly acquired RHP Duke Van Schamen (1-0). After allowing a run on an RBI single from Seth Spivey (5) in the first inning, CJ Needham tied the game in the second with a base hit to center. The Slammers entered the 5th inning still tied at one when first basemen, a product of Theo Epstein, stepped to the plate with two men aboard. Boomers’ starter Kagen Hopkins hung a fastball over the plate and Rock Shoulders did not miss it, depositing the ball far beyond the right field wall. Schaumburg would plate another runner after Seth Spivey singled to make it a two-run deficit, but the resilient Slammers added two more runs in their half of the 8th inning and went on to win by a final score of 6-3.
