The Southern Illinois Miners used early power, team offense and a quality start from Rick Teasley to beat the River City Rascals 7-2 on Friday night in Game Three of the Division Series, successfully avoiding elimination in the best-of-five playoff set. The Miners got on the board first in the second inning, when Kurt Wertz, Jr. smacked a deep solo home run to right field for a 1-0 advantage. The next frame, Aaron Gates led off with a double and Shane Kennedy walked. After a sacrifice bunt by Nolan Earley, Alex De Leon launched a moonshot to left field for a three-run home run and a 4-0 Miners cushion. Teasley (1-0), meanwhile, allowed two baserunners in the first, but after retiring Kyle Gaedele to end that frame, the southpaw reeled off 11 outs in a row. River City got both their runs on three straight hits in the sixth inning, including an RBI ground-rule double by Josh Ludy, and a sacrifice fly by Josh Silver to cut the Miners lead to 4-2.
