AUGUST 28 AFTERNOON RECAPS Sioux City 3, Winnipeg 2 (11 innings)- Box The Explorers broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 11th and held on for a 3-2 win over the Goldeyes. CF Tim Colwell drew a leadoff walk and took second on an error for Sioux City. He scored on an RBI single by 3B Tommy Mendonca. Mendonca was no stranger to heroics in the game, as he hit a solo home run in the ninth just to force the game to extra innings. Sioux City’s first run scored in the seventh, when 1B Ralph Henriquez singled home Colwell. Mendonca was the only Explorer with two hits, notching two of his team’s five hits on the day. RHP Rob Wort struck out six over three perfect innings of relief to pick up the win for the Explorers. For Winnipeg, 2B Casio Grider hit his 11th home run of the season in the loss.
