Florence, Ky. – Two-out hitting and strong pitching down the stretch sent the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, to a 5-3 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies. Florence (41-48) knocked around all six of their hits with two outs, while Freedom pitching totaled 11 strikeouts, including the final six Gateway (42-46) batters of the game. The Freedom found the scoreboard first, plating a run with two-out hitting in the second. Shaun Cooper ripped a double to the wall in left and Josh Henderson singled him home with a grounder back up the middle. Gateway took the lead in the third with the help of a pair of Freedom errors. With two men on and nobody out, Eric Ferguson scored from second on an arid throw. Then Josh Benselmeyer lifted a sacrifice fly to left, giving Gateway a 2-1 advantage. Florence answered in the fourth to retake the lead. Collins Cuthrell walked and moved to third when Gateway starter Corey Kimes’ throw on a potential double play ball ended up in centerfield. Cuthrell came home on a Henderson groundout and then Cooper crossed the plate on Isaac Wenrich’s second two-out hit, which gave the Freedom a 3-2 lead. Florence extended…
