TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(30-41) put up a three spot in the top of the first and held on to defeat the Normal Cornbelters(38-33), 5-3. The win ends a three game skid for the Bums and a nine game win streak for Normal. With one out in the opening inning, Ryan Bottger hit a single to left then moved to second when Jose Vargas walked. Will Kengor stepped to the plate and laced an RBI single to right, to score Bottger. Two batters later, Elijah Trail knocked home Vargas and Kengor, giving the Beach Bums an early 3-0 lead. In the fifth, the Cornbelters got on the board with four straight singles, the last two by Santiago Chirino and Aaron Dudley, each driving in runs, cutting the Bums’ lead to one. In the bottom of the inning, and with one away, Will Kengor doubled to right field. Steven Patterson then drove him in with an RBI double, his second of three doubles on the game, and the Beach Bums doubled their advantage. Traverse City added to the offense in the sixth.
