SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, came back from an early deficit Thursday afternoon to sweep the Traverse City Beach Bums in a 6-3 victory. Traverse City led 2-0 in the third before the Boomers Justin Byrd and Mark Nelson hit back-to-back RBI singles to draw the score even. Schaumburg took the lead in the fourth onKolten Yamaguchi’s first professional hit that plated Paul Kronenfeld and Shawn Payne. Payne extended the lead in the seventh with a two RBI single. The Beach Bums scored one in the ninth but were unable to mount the comeback as the Boomers completed their eighth straight victory. Josh Heddinger earned his second win of the season, hurling six innings of three hit baseball, striking out four and giving up two runs. Nelson reached base for the 17th straight game and Payne extended his hitting streak to five games. In his first appearance for Schaumburg, Yamaguchi went 3-4 with three singles.
