Joliet, IL- The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy scored a run in the first inning for the third straight game Sunday, June 5 at Silver Cross Field against the Gateway Grizzlies. With many fans and their dogs in attendance Sunday afternoon, the Slammers defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 7-3 to earn the series sweep. All seven runs came off home runs. Joliet combined to hit four home runs in the game, including a long home run by Boo Vazquez in the first inning. Carter Bell, Joe Staley, and Marc Flores also homered in the game. Bell launched a three-run home run to left field in the third inning to give the Slammers a 4-0 lead. Bell was ejected in the fourth inning after both benches cleared after Phil Bates was hit by a pitch. Gateway’s first baseman Ben Waldrip and relief pitcher JaVaun West were ejected as well. Staley struggled in the first two games of the series, but with the wind blowing out in Sunday’s game, he got ahold of one and sent it over the right field wall to make the score 5-2.
