WASHINGTON, PA – The Traverse City Beach Bums(3-7) took the opening of Wednesday’s doubleheader, 3-1, but dropped the nightcap to the Washington Wild Things(5-5) by the final score of 4-3. The Beach Bums got on the board first in the double dip, after two scoreless innings. With 2 outs in the 3rd, Jeff DeBlieux ripped a line shot off the pitcher for a single, who promptly stole second. Ryan Bottger followed with an RBI double to left, making it 1-0 Bums. With one away in the top of the 4th, Will Kengor laced a shot to left field that carried over the wall for his first home run of the season, to double the Bums’ advantage. Washington cut the lead in half in the bottom of the 4th when, with two outs, David Popkins hit his first home run of the season. After a scoreless 5th and 6th, the Beach Bums got an important insurance run when Wesley Wallace, with 2 away in the 7th, hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall. In the bottom of the 7th, a diving catch at first by Brandon Thomasson sealed with win for Traverse City. Jacob Lanning(1-1)…
