The Joliet Slammers Announce 2022 Youth Sports Camps

JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers are opening their stadium to two very unique Youth Sports Camps this year; one baseball focused, one soccer focused.

Along their roots, the Slammers invite all local baseball and softball players, ages 5+, for Youth Skills Camp on Tuesday, July 26 or Tuesday, August 16.

For $80 participants are invited to take the field with Slammers players and Coach Dan Schlereth, former MLB Pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers, from 9am until noon for a variety of skills lessons before attending an all-team picnic lunch from noon until 1pm. This cost also includes a ticket to the Slammers’ home game that evening with first pitches occurring at 6:35pm. While the instructions will be baseball focused, any softball players interested in attending are welcome to join in the fun! Participants are responsible for bringing their own mit, bats, turf shoes, and excitement to learn!

While the Joliet Slammers are on the road from August 22-26, they will open up Duly Health and Care Field to the incredible English Football League Two Leyton Orient Coaching staff for a week-long Soccer Clinic. Leyton Orient is the second oldest professional football (soccer) team in London, having been founded in 1881, and they have hosted numerous overseas skills camps in the United States. 2022 marks the first time the Orient staff have come to the Chicago area and the Joliet Slammers are very excited to be partnering with them on this unique event.

“The whole Slammers organization is thrilled to be welcoming coaches from Leyton Orient to Joliet for this great event,” said Nick Semaca, Slammers owner. “Given the growth of soccer in our area we are sure this will be a great opportunity for local area youth to learn from some of the best”.

For $300 participants will be instructed by professional EFL League and UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) qualified coaches daily, August 22-26. The cost includes the week-long skills clinic and a specialty t-shirt. Participants are responsible for bringing healthy snacks, lots of water, shin guards, sunscreen, soccer cleats, and a great attitude!

The Leyton Orient Coaches work at the Leyton Orient Football Club (LOFC) Academy which is renowned for producing young players over the many years. A number of Premiership Clubs in London, such as Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, and Arsenal, have entrusted LOFC Academy with their young players to allow them to play first team football for LOFC to help them to develop as loan players. One of the most notable being current England and Tottenham Hotspur Captain Harry Kane, who scored his first professional goal whilst playing on loan for the Leyton Orient.
