Goldeyes to Host Ukrainian Night June 29th

WINNIPEG, MB – Thanks to terrific support from Goldeyes fans and Manitoba’s Ukrainian community the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club is pleased to announce our sixth annual “Ukrainian Night” as we continue to support all cultures, all religions and human rights – every game – every season! The game is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29 as the Goldeyes take on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 6:30 p.m. at Shaw Park in downtown Winnipeg. This season’s game takes on special significance due to the atrocities occurring in Ukraine.

Sponsored by Pratts Wholesale Food Service, Goldeyes Ukrainian Night will begin with Ukrainian Dance Band “Sich” on the Promenade Stage at 5:30 p.m. Sich is a Winnipeg-based dance band specializing in Ukrainian and other ethnic music. Each of the five members sings and plays a variety of instruments. Together, they provide an entertaining blend of dance music – from Polkas to Pop and from Country to Rock – Sich is live music at its finest.

Hoosli Ukrainian Male Chorus will perform the anthems including their heart-warming version of the Ukraine National Anthem. For more than five decades the Hoosli Ukrainian Male Chorus has celebrated Ukrainian culture through music and song. In recent years, the reach of Hoosli’s music has grown to global proportions – between the advent of digital music platforms and the exposure to international audiences through its anthem performances at professional sports games. In 2019 Hoosli celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a series of events and performances that culminated with a Gala Concert at the Centennial Concert Hall. Hoosli received the Community Service Award from the City of Winnipeg for 50 years of service to the community – an excellent way for Hoosli to celebrate 50 years of spirit and song. The Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club is pleased to welcome back the Hoosli Ukrainian Male Chorus to Shaw Park!

The Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble will entertain throughout the game plus members of the dance group will be on the Concourse selling “Stand With Ukraine” T-Shirts with the proceeds going to help the people of Ukraine.

Troyanda respects and preserves Ukrainian culture, history, and tradition through the art of dance. Since 1979, the Ensemble is honoured to have collaborated with many notable Canadian and Ukrainian artists to develop an extensive repertoire representing the rich and diverse regions of Ukraine. Under the artistic direction of Mr. Paul Doroniuk and creative direction of Mrs. Jenn Doroniuk, Troyanda pushes creative boundaries, recognizing the interconnection of Ukrainian and Canadian culture. The passion and dedication of Troyanda’s members is unparalleled. This commitment creates a supportive atmosphere for talented dancers to grow in their skills and artistry while deepening the connection to their ancestral roots. Each dancer performs with their soul, inviting audiences worldwide to fall in love with Troyanda.

There will be a variety of Ukrainian Music, Dance and Culture Displays. Contests and prizes will continue to be part of the game including a 9-Inning $50 Gift Card Giveaway from Tenderloin Meat & Sausage and a special “So You Think You Can Dance – Ukrainian” contest courtesy of Mr. Perogy!

“Pratts and the Baranyk Family are proud and honoured to participate in a fun evening supporting our Goldeyes and our Ukrainian culture”, said Lenny Baranyk, President of Pratts Wholesale.

Ambassadors from Folklorama’s Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion – in full Ukrainian cultural attire – will greet fans as they arrive for the game, plus Ukrainian-themed activities will be staged on the Concourse of Shaw Park. Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education (MPUE) will host an interactive Children’s Activity Area on the Concourse.

The Shevchenko Foundation will be on hand to provide information on many of the unique aspects of Ukrainian culture at its display and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council will have a presence at the game.

There are important fundraising aspects to the game as the Goldeyes are donating four dollars from every ticket sold to the Shevchenko Foundation and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Division.

When ordering advance tickets, whether in person at Shaw Park or at Goldeyes.com, we ask that you use the Promo Code “Ukraine” so that the $4 donation per ticket will be registered.
