UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (1-0) used their entire bullpen to beat the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (0-1) to a 8-2 win in front of a sold out crowd on Opening Day at Jimmy John’s Field.
Noah Childress led the way Unicorns with four RBI, two hits, and scored one home run. Centerfielder Drue Galassi drove in one run for the Unicorns and finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Blake Porter led the Hoppers with a home run, finishing the game 1-for-4 with two RBI. Right-handed pitcher Pierce Banks (0-1) tossed 3.0 innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and fanned two.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers and Westside Woolly Mammoths will face off on Saturday at Jimmy John’s Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It will be Top Gun Night with a t-shirt giveaway, courtesy of The Long Drink, for the first 500 fans, and movie ticket giveaways from MJR Theaters.
