UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers have been the hottest team throughout the first month of USPBL season, pitching together an 8-3 record through 11 games, and holding an impressive +35 scoring differential.
The offense for Eastside has been the most successful part of the Hopper’s game, with their hitters among the league leaders in most statistical categories. However, according to Eastside’s players, the real recipe for their success comes from their connection both on the field and in the locker room.
Noah Marcoux is the current USPBL leader in Slugging % (.889), On-Base % (.643), Runs Scored (14), Bases (24), Walks (14), and Home Runs (5).
In baseball, success lies not only in individual talent, and Marcoux captures this essence perfectly. “It just comes down to everyone doing their job in the lineup,” he said. “Everyone fills into a certain spot, and we just play the ball very nicely.”
Despite his play being among the best in the league, Marcoux credits the Hoppers’ team chemistry and resilience as the leading factor in their early success. “Everything is meshing together in the dugout and on the field. We just take it one day at a time, if we have a bad day, we bounce back.”
Manager Ryan Kottke doubled down on the Hopper’s dedication and relationships together. “These guys have been locked in since spring training, and with what they do on a day-to-day basis, I’m really happy for them,” he says with pride. “Hopefully, we can continue our success right now.”
Another standout player, Ben Ferguson, who is leading the USPBL with 13 RBIs in his first year playing with the league, further illustrates how his team’s atmosphere contributes to its success. “It’s a light clubhouse,” he said. “We all get along well, joke around, have a good time, and make it work. It’s good vibes always.”
The Hoppers look to continue their hot start heading deeper into the season, and the team’s combination of great hitting and team chemistry seems to be a recipe for continued success.
