Mammoths Stomp On Hoppers, 12-2

UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (4-4) would hit three home runs, and send all nine of their batters on base en route to a dominant 12-2 win over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (6-3) , on a windy Thursday afternoon at Jimmy John’s Field.

The Hoppers, coming in with the best record in the USPBL and a trend of scoring early, would resume where they left off, when Ben Ferguson singled for his 12th RBI of the season and a first inning 1-0 lead.

The Mammoths would enter the game coming off of seven straight scoreless innings, but Nick Pastore would change the tides for Westside’s offense, driving a 344-foot home run to right field to even the score and make the lead for the Hoppers short lived. Dre Williams-Nelson would launch one a few batters later, for the Mammoth’s second home run of the inning, and giving the Mammoths the lead.

Eastside’s Noah Marcoux would launch an absolute bomb 432 feet into center field to make the score 2-4 and attempt to scrape away at the Mammoth’s lead.

The longest home run of the season last year in the USPBL was 413 feet, also hit by Noah Marcoux.

In the third, Coby Seltzer hits a 3-run blast for the fourth home run of the game and the third for the Mammoths, which would break open the Mammoth’s lead by five.

The action would slow down significantly for the rest of the game, as the Mammoths would not secure a base hit until the 8th inning after the Seltzer home run in the 3rd. Westside would load the bases late in the inning, and Pastore would secure another RBI after being hit by a pitch.

Reigning player of the week Francis Florentino would then hit a three RBI double to extend the lead to nine for the Mammoths and all but secure the win for Westside.
