Chicago Dogs lose series finale in nailbiter fashion in extra innings, 2-1.
Following a heartbreaking 13-10 loss Sunday afternoon, the Chicago Dogs had one more game to complete as a part of the team’s Sunday doubleheader against the Cleburne Railroaders.
Kenny Serwa, who was originally supposed to start in game five for the Dogs, had his start pushed to game six.
Serwa, the knuckleballer, was almost untouchable for most of the game. Serwa allowed his first of three hits in the top of the fourth inning, a leadoff single hit by former Major Leaguer Shed Long.
Serwa threw a shutout on the mound until the sixth inning.
The Dogs offense struggled throughout the game, only totalling one run on four hits, striking out nine times. Third baseman Dustry Stroup scored the lone run of the game for the Dogs, after walking, stealing second, and then scoring on a Jesus Lujano single to center field.
Serwa’s dominance on the mound ended as the team entered into extra innings. Serwa handed the ball to newly signed relief pitcher Davis Pratt, who despite allowing a run over his two innings of work, struck out four batters. Pratt’s slider worked very well for him, utilizing the slider often as a two strike pitch.
The runner on second for extra innings defeated the Dogs, as Long got from second to home on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
After dropping two winnable games in a row, the Dogs look to start fresh, heading up north to Franklin, Wisconsin, for a three game series starting on Tuesday.
